Download the accompanying PDF handout (letter sized paper).
Here are some ideas:
Connection

Read our monthly newsletters. Implement some of the ideas. You can also signup to have the newsletter delivered directly to your inbox.

Lead a creation themed worship service. One opportunity would be to Celebrate the new Creation in Christ Sunday in September. There are lots of worship resources to help you.

Attend an Earth Connect Retreat
led by members of our task force.
The next one is on September 12th at Willow Glen UMC in San Jose.

Visit a Sacred Ground site
Rev. Laurie Bayen has created over 75 audio tours
for sites around CA that you can visit to
combine creation care and Indigenous history with calls to action.
Education

Host a book study.
We have a list of recommended books.

Learn about climate injustice recognizing the disproportionate impacts of climate change
on low-income communities and communities of color around the world.

Take some training.
Become a Global Ministries EarthKeeper.
Or use the self-paced Climate Ambassador classes.

Invite a speaker. Our task force chair, Rev. Joan Pell, and others are willing to be guest speakers. Or perhaps you know an author that you can invite.
Advocacy

Advocate for phasing out fossil fuels with a fair and just transition ensuring the burdens of climate change and costs of climate actions are shared fairly, protecting vulnerable populations.

Build the movement. Join with others including the United Methodist Creation Justice Movement.

Respond to our advocacy alerts. Every month we highlight some opportunities for you to give your input to the legislative process.

Choose carefully where to shop and bank. Advocacy work can also include boycotting businesses
who help to perpetuate injustice.
Action

Gather a group of like-minded folk and start a green team. We have lots of resources to help you get started.

Reduce plastic usage. You could start by eliminating bottled water & plastic cutlery.

Practice sustainable gardening. Plant some native plants or a vegetable garden and stop using pesticides.

Install solar panels on your home or church. Drive an electric car. Look for the big and small ways that your church can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
